THE QUICK ANSWER

Begin with the campaign tutorial. Move into Tycoon when you want management challenges, or Sandbox when you want more room to experiment.

01Choose how you want to play

The game has three modes: Campaign, Tycoon and Sandbox. The campaign opens with a tutorial and contains eight missions. It is the clearest starting point if you are new to the series.

Choose a starting mode
ModeStart here when…
CampaignYou want an introduction and directed objectives.
TycoonYou want to manage a growing transport business.
SandboxYou want to explore and build more freely.

02Give your first connection a job

Urban Games describes Tycoon as a sequence of changing town needs. Goods, passenger connections, traffic, noise and pollution all matter as towns develop.

Suggested learning routine: choose one need, make one connection, then observe the result before expanding. This is an editorial recommendation, not a tested optimal build.

03Use the tutorial for exact controls

Follow the current in-game prompts for construction and vehicle controls. Keep your first experiment small enough that you can trace a journey from origin to destination and see where it pauses.

When something surprises you, note the mode, platform and steps that led to it. Those details make the official support resources and community discussions much more useful.

04Decide what to learn next

Read the Tycoon systems overview before expanding a network, or check how mods work before moving an old mod collection over. Our launch guide does not assume that Transport Fever 2 controls, economics or mods transfer unchanged.
